Over the last 10 days, Buddy (our dog) has made a remarkably fast recovery from his presumed FCE. At first he couldn’t stand or walk - he had essentially lost the use of his back half. The signs of the progress has been steady: one day he was wagging his tail, the next he was standing on his own for a few minutes, on another he was taking a few steps on his own (balancing on his ankles). Right now he’s walking almost normally, paws on the floor, though he looks a little drunk. He still can’t manage steps or stairs (he has to be carried) and he can’t jump up on anything. But this morning he was trying to scratch his ears for the first time. Every day there is progress. It’s fantastic!

Our dog Buddy has suffered some kind of spinal trauma, causing partial paralysis. After a night and a day at the animal hospital, Buddy is now back home and in good spirits. We’re hoping and praying that he has a fast and full recovery.

Leonard & Megan are filing a petition with the US Department of Homeland Security to have the conditions on my permanent resident status removed. What are the conditions on my permanent resident status? Because my permanent residence was based on a marriage that was less than 2 years old at the time it was granted (2005), now that 2 years have passed we have to provide evidence that our marriage is based on “good faith” and not for the purpose of evading immigration laws. If we don’t, I become “removable” from the United States after 4-Feb-07 (when my permanent resident status expires).

Megan and I have adopted a 3-4 year old Beagle mix called Buddy. He’s very good-looking, has a great personality, likes fine-dining, long walks at the beach and curling up on the couch with a good movie. Loves small animals. GSOH, N/S. Intelligent, honest with a very good heart.

Megan is 2 weeks into a 4 week triathlon at the gym. It’s essentially where she has to cover the distance of a real triathlon, but in the swimming pool and on the treadmill/bicycle machine in the gym. So, in 4 weeks she needs to complete: 110 miles on a bike, 3 miles swimming, and 26 miles running. She’s doing really well so far. 4 weeks sounds like a long time, but it’s flying by! Why put herself through all this? It’s part of her training for the Danskin sprint-distance triathlon next summer (1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike, 3.1 mile run) in aid of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Megan has accepted a full-time job working as a Youth Nutrition Educator. Although not a classroom teacher, it will involve teaching nutrition to children in grades K through 5 (British years 1-6). We’re both very excited for Megan to get out of substitute teaching and no longer have to work extra part-time jobs. The new job is year-round (no more looking for summer work each year!), and includes paid vacations which means we’ll finally be able to go on vacation at off-peak times of the year. Brilliant!

Megan has been offered a summer school teaching position with the Madison school district for the 2nd year in a row, this time teaching literacy to grades 3-5. Yay! Additionally, her extended long-term substitute position has been reclassified as a temporary contract, which is very exciting.

Megan’s long-term substitute assignment in a grade 5 (year 6) classroom in northern Madison has been extended by another month, until mid-April. She is delighted!

Though it has only been 11 months since I started, I have been promoted to the role of IT Operations Specialist. What does an operations specialist do? Basically, I will be responsible for a team of people who keep the credit union software working as it should. It’s kind of hard to explain…

Roger, our rat of 9 months, passed away peacefully yesterday evening, 8 November 2005. His love of paper towels and frozen sweet corn will not be forgotten. Roger is survived by his brother, Quincy, who remains as blind, as crazy and as full of life as ever.
