Almost a catastrophe

Just to update everyone who might visit our website on a regular basis, Leo and I almost had a wedding catastrophe.  Over the New Year’s weeked, we were informed that the Canterburry Inn Bookseelers had been sold and we would no longer be able to have our reception there.  With our hearts broken as we had really liked the idea of a bookstore, we begain to make phone calls to other venues.  We were met with many not availables for our popular wedding date, however, we did find two places we were interested in.  After visiting both, we have decided to hold our wedding recepton at the Best Western Inn on the Park in the Top of the Park room over looking the capitol square!  It is not the same as the book store, but is still small and quaint and leads itself to a relaxed feeling-all of things we really enjoyed about Canterburry.  Even better is that they are a hotel and have given us a discounted rate on a block of rooms for our potential guests to use as well as the Bridal Suite for free.  All in all it is not a bad place and top to it all off it is much less expensive than the Canterburry Inn.  So we save money as well!  I know Dad will be excited acout that!

Bad News

Our reception plans have been changed after the Canterbury Bookstore was sold off last week, leaving us without a reception venue. We’ve come across a few vacancies at other sites though...makes me glad we did all the Save the Date cards last week, I can tell you.

Save the Date

Today we wrote 61 Save the Date cards which are now ready to be mailed off. As always with this kind of mass-mailing, there’s always someone for whom we don’t have an address or a full name or a postcode for. So sorry if we made a mistake.

Megan has also decided on bridesmaids dresses for the big day. They’re apple red, to give everything away.

And we’ve registered. So, if you want to get your wedding gifts out of the way, check out http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com for our registry. We’ll be registering at more places soon…

Megans Second Post

So I am blogging again!

Well had a meeting with my Dad today about the wedding.  He has suggested a number of things which may or may not make the wedding easier to plan.  The first idea is to have a nudist wedding.  I don’t think I am sold on that idea yet.
A more sensible suggestion is to serve a buffet dinner that way Leo and I don’t have to collect response cards and tally dinner choices.  Another is to not have a seating plan and reserve the first three to four tables for close family and friends then make the rest of our guests duke it out for seats.  He also said getting a cover band to play Oldie songs wouldn’t be too expensive!

My Dad had lots of ideas tonight, he also thought Leo and I might like to have the reception at the Union in the Grande Ball Room.  I reminded him that to rent it you must be an Alumni of the University of Madison Wisconsin.  To which my Dad replied “I am”.  I cleverly said, I forgot that.  So that now could be an option.  The room is very lovely and free to my father -that would save us around $1000.  The catering also isn’t too unreasonable and dishes are clearly labelled veggie!  Another plus would be watching the Rhythm and Booms celebration from the room as it faces the lake. The cons would be more difficulty parking, it is a more formal situation and might be too large and it might not be available.  But I guess it gives us something to think about.

However, he did say that if we really want Canterburry Bookstore then go for it and go for White Horse Inn catering!  They have decided against catering themselves as they don’t want to be under any more pressure on the wedding day than they have to.

So I guess that is a lot of good news to share and think about!

Catering

We’re currently looking at the White Horse Inn, which does excellent vegetarian options, as well as KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken), which, err, doesn’t have as good vegetarian options, but it does have some excellent drinks. Yes, it’s a bit unusual for two vegetarians to have KFC to help with the catering…

Megans First Post

Well I just wrote a very long blog which some how got deleted and I am very upset about it.  So here it goes again.

Not much news to update on the venue and caterering.  I am planning to make an appointment to discuss cost with the White Horse Inn next week.  I visited Canterburry again and still like it.  Shawna however, thinks it will be “different”.

Whilst shopping on State Street, I stumbled upon an antique looking small tiara to wear as part of my headress for the wedding.  It shouldn’t be too difficult for Tina and I to attach a Catherdral lenght veil to it!  Should it?

In the same store my Mother happened to find the most darling purse to wear with my reahersal dinner outfit.  It is shapped as a Chinese take-away container and covered in oriental inspired fabric.  It just happens to almost exactly match my oriental themed outfit!  So that is the biggest news in the ways of accessories.

On the brides maids front.  I have been looking at Davidsbridal.com to view some mix-n-match outfits.  I have found some that have been given the thumbs up by both Tina, Mom and Shawna.  Just Courtney needs to approve them.

Not much else, Leo and I are working on finializing the guest list in order to send out save the date cards!

Hope this will keep you all informed!
